Cool new Google.de features

With all the IPO stuff its easy to forget that Google keeps delivering cool features: Neue Google-Funktionen, also Google .

Especially useful the map function to rough and ready localisation of points of interest. Too bad my favorite Stadtplandienst isn't in on that, but I've been using Map24 for routeplanning anyway...

Also nice the Fedex/UPS tracking option.

PS: ok this is new for Germany, the US had it for a while and that's how I knew it in the first place; glad to see it over here.

$12.5 bn to $95 mn, $3.3bn to ??

John Battelle, and a host of others remark on the deep valuation dive of Lycos:$12.5 Billion to $95 million.. This seems to be a constant in the searchspace - think altavista, excite et al. Let's hope Google will be different.

Scottish Carl Zeiss Spin-Off

I have a particulat interest in spin-offs, and .Dentofex is a nice example of one that might go somewhere. They specialise in killing off bacteria in teeth without drilling.

They used to torture us with those in philosophy, but you have to admit they look cool and come in handy for all sorts of visualisations.

Fieldmarshal to you ;-)

In a quiet minute I filled out the Jung personality type test (found via Megnut). I came out ENTJ which is supposed to be "Field Marshal". Amusingly its the same result as Megnut's.

Rock Icon's new clothes

Bob Dylan couldn't be fussed to sit through the students graduation ceremony when receiving an honorary degree last month, too much the star apparently. However, he was not above making off with the crermonial robe afterwards (awestruck officials felt they couldn't say no?)...

Attention, ecommerce sites: Open up or die…

Good little discussion, of Netflix and the imperative to open up. Netwoks beat hierarchies over time and this space will be no exception. Moreover, the logic goes for pretty much all transaction-based membersip organisations, and social networking sites, too: open up, provide access to your API and rule. (Via dwlt)
