How to make money with blogging

The quick buck in blogging is in talking about it. So, cScout is organising a Trend Day about Blogging in Munich and you'd have to blog a long time to earn the EUR 200 admission via adsense ;-).

Maintenance fees in enterprise software

Apparently the all-important maintenance fee percentage is inching north of 20% nowadays, says Frank Scavo. He adds that once Oracle realised just how profitable the Peoplesoft maintenance contracts were, they upped their offer to clinch the deal.

TGIF

Somehow Friday often throws up good posts to read, maybe people get more reflective towards the end of the week?

The Long Tale - Silicon Valleys latest Fad/Trend/New Thing (you choose) is fascinating to watch unfold. Ross Mayfield always writes very well. However, I'm not sure about reports of the death of the 80/20 rule.

Fisking Calancis about the entrepreneurs vs VCs debate. As usual, venture capital is not a birthright but only makes sense in certain situations. If not, get over it.

I'm looking forward to find out more about Union Square Ventures as I have been following Fred Wilson's blog. It might become the most transparent VC fund.

Check out this .pdf from the google analyst presentation: that's how I would like my presentations to look like all the time. pictures, emotions and notes below (none needed in this case ;-) (Via Searchblog)

40k Germans in Schottland

Germany is Scotland’s top export destination and the Germans, it seems, cannot get enough of Caledonia: 40,000 of them live here, 1,165 German students study in Scottish universities and 175,000 Germans visited in 2003 - spending £105m.

Says Scotland on Sunday.. But nobody knows just where they are ;-)

Eric Archambeau joins Wellington Partners

I wonder if he will move to Munich or if this will be the first satellite office for Wellington in London. Although he left rather abruptly from Benchmark it's a rare and welcome injection of international talent to the German VC community.
