"Der Weltmarktführer" - which I've discussed before- starts in Munich tomorrow. It's well worth a look if you had anything to do with startups, the New Economy etc. Only on until Wednesday next week.

IMS - IP Multimedia Subsystem
I learnt a new acronym today: IMS. The latest Rutberg newseltter used it as if everybody knew it (I guess everybody at 3GSM in Cannes did know :) so for those in the dark:
IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS): comprising all the core network elements for the provision of multimedia services. IMS has been designed to enable full IP-based communication, exploiting the benefits of IP for all types of traffic, and providing for seamless operation between different systems and also with the Internet). Using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force, IMS enables mobile operators to offer their subscribers multimedia services based on and built upon Internet applications, services and protocols.
From ETSI The European Telecommunications Standards Institute website.
This is exciting stuff, since full blown IP communications on a mobile combined with a data flatrate say loud and clear VoIP to me. Cant't wait.

Swiss Doctorates
Germans love titles, and PhDs in particular. The perception is that this is one of the few distinctions that genuinely has to be earned. So imagine the eclat when the manager magazin revealed that Thomas Kühr, the (by now former) head of T-Venture and president of the German Venture Capital association bought his "Dr." at a Swiss, er, university.

AdAstra goes it alone
AdAstra, formerly a Hypovereinsbank captive vc fund just announced hat they completed a management buy out. No details yet on the financials. The HvB intends, however, to invest in AdAstra's second, forthcoming fund. The company has been known to make some clever investments, so good luck for the future! More details when I get them.
